HAI performed a Phase I ESA of a ranch property along 8 miles of John Day River frontage and covering more than 8,000 acres, which consisted largely of undeveloped rangeland, except for two farm complexes consisting of residences, outbuildings, corrals, and an abandoned homestead.

From February 2011 to April 2013, HAI conducted more than 50 Phase I ESAs, and also a number of hazardous building materials surveys, for properties located in Portland and Milwaukie along the future alignment of TriMet’s Portland-Milwaukie Light Rail Transit Project.
The City of Hillsboro had purchased an underutilized corner lot in downtown Hillsboro in anticipation of redeveloping the property with a transit-oriented, compact, mixed-use project to fit into the City’s Downtown Plan. When the City began to negotiate the sale of the property to a developer in 2011, HAI was retained to conduct a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA).
HAI conducted a Phase I ESA for a lush hundred-acre property located at the confluence of the Nestucca and Little Nestucca Rivers. Used as a religious retreat from the 1930s through 2010, it had lately been unused and was available for purchase. The Nature Conservancy was considering acquisition of the property, and requested a Phase I ESA from HAI as a component of their due diligence.
HAI provided technical and permitting support to Safeway Inc. for Underground Injection Control (UIC) system registration and compliance with the ODEQ UIC Program. HAI researched over 100 properties owned by the client, including stand-alone stores, stores in shopping centers, and a 65-acre warehouse and distribution facility. The UIC systems included drywells, perforated retention and infiltration systems, drill-holes, septic systems, and legacy drywells installed as early as the 1950s.
From 2003 through 2007, HAI performed comprehensive environmental consulting services for this site, including Phase I and II ESAs, supervised Targeted Brownfields assessment, investigation, risk evaluation, and remedy selection and design.
Between 2001 and 2007 HAI played an integral role in the re-development of this former auto wrecking yard site in southwest Portland. Earlier investigations had already discovered that the site was contaminated with petroleum, metals, and chlorinated solvents. Community Partners for Affordable Housing and the Housing Development Center contacted HAI to assess the potential environmental development issues and costs for an affordable housing development proposed for this brownfield site.
As a focused regional firm, we provide a personal approach, along with attention to detail, consistent high-quality work, and continuity of staff and services, including Phase I and II ESAs, Remedial Investigations, and Brownfield Redevelopment. The solutions we provide for our clients are formulated to promote responsible stewardship of the environment.
